ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini: Which $20 AI Subscription Wins in 2026?

All three flagship AI assistants cost about $20/month. Here's what each one actually includes, and how to pick based on how you work.

The AI subscription market has converged on a $20/month standard tier: ChatGPT Plus at $20, Claude Pro at $20, and Google AI Pro at $19.99. When the sticker prices are within a dollar of each other, the decision comes down to what each subscription actually bundles.

What $20 buys you at each provider

ChatGPT Plus is the broadest bundle: frontier text models, voice conversations, DALL-E image generation, file analysis, custom GPTs, and Sora video credits. If you want one subscription that does a bit of everything, this is it. A budget Go plan exists at $8/month, but it includes ads and is worth skipping for most people.

Claude Pro trades breadth for depth. You get the largest standard-tier context window (200K tokens), consistently strong long-form writing, and — uniquely — Claude Code, the terminal coding agent, bundled in. For writers and developers, that bundle is hard to beat.

Google AI Pro wins on raw specs: a one-million-token context window (5x Claude's, roughly 8x ChatGPT's), Veo video generation, Deep Research, 2TB of storage, and Gemini inside Gmail, Docs, and Sheets. If your work already lives in Google Workspace, the integration alone justifies it.

The power-user tiers

All three sell heavy-usage plans: ChatGPT Pro at $100-200/month, Claude Max at $100 (5x) or $200 (20x), and Google AI Ultra at $99.99-199.99. Unless you hit your $20 plan's limits daily, skip these.

Our take

Pick by workflow, not benchmarks. Google-ecosystem users should take AI Pro. Writers and developers lean Claude. Everyone else starts with ChatGPT Plus — the free tiers of all three are good enough to test before paying.
